A Message from Our Founding Member:

I must admit it’s been quite the process building community while the world feels like it’s on fire. So much calamity. So much strife. As I type these words, we’ve bore witness to 40 days/nights of an active genocide upon the Palestinian people, of which we as a cooperative, stand firmly against. At the same time, we’ve witnessed and have been a part of worldwide collective action against these horrific acts which have had the unintended consequence of radicalizing people of all ages, religions, and walks of life. It’s incredibly difficult to move about, business as usual when war and violence rage on in places like Haiti and the Congo and Sudan and Turkey… It goes on.

We understand that the world’s attention is elsewhere, but we also understand that this is why we must keep building.

One of the reasons Trunk of My Car Cooperative exists is in response to colonialism and capitalism that has thrived on oppression and exploitation. The oppression and exploitation that is responsible for so much violence on and to the planet. Trunk of My Car represents the turning of our collective backs on these systems, as we believe the best way to win the game is to stop playing. We are building and supporting cooperative community that is of the people. A place where authors, readers, and workers - stakeholders - each have an equal say in how we operate.

We can no longer afford to place blind faith in corporations who’ve shown us time and time again that they value profit more than the people, more than the planet. We believe that cooperatives are a step away from capitalism. A step towards community and collaboration and fair wages and transparency and inclusivity. A step towards an equitable world, where we share resources and protect each other and the planet.

Trunk of My Car Cooperative is a Hawai`i registered multi-stakeholder cooperative ready to get our show on the road! We’re currently working to ensure the platform is ready to launch (in beta) on February 24, 2024 - 100 days from today. We are seeking 100 U.S. based authors to be our first member-owners in that time - who are or will be ready to offer at least one e-book of any size. Is that you? If so, as we are operating as a true democracy, your input is needed to determine our initial terms - royalties, dues, participation... The survey is open to the first 100 U.S. based authors and will close once we reach capacity. We will create a waitlist once that happens. For our authors located outside of the U.S., we are piloting the platform here and plan to expand beyond these borders very soon. Please stay tuned for updates! We’re on our way…
